The Evergreen

Conveniently located in the heart of Central South East Portland, The Evergreen is the city’s premier wedding venue. It has the capacity to host up to 550 guests – or a 200-person dinner – making it an ideal venue for weddings big or small.

Housed in a building dating back to 1908, The Evergreen was lovingly restored in 2015 with the help of some of Oregon’s leading artisans. Stairs and a fully ADA-accessible elevator lead guests from the foyer up to a breathtaking first-floor ballroom.

With 20-foot-high vaulted ceilings, two newly installed skylights and imposing original windows, the venue feels airy and floods with natural light. Original Arts & Crafts features have been accented with understated modern touches – solid beams, exposed brickwork and a poured concrete bar bestow a stylish, industrial feel.

While The Evergreen is stunning in its own right, couples can embellish the ballroom with touches that reflect their personality and style. There are hang rails to support light and floral installations, while bespoke altars can be erected for the ceremony itself. However you choose to dress the space, you can rest assured that The Evergreen will look elegant, stylish and sophisticated on your wedding day.

Equally, as a purpose-designed event space, The Evergreen has all the amenities to ensure your special day runs smoothly. There’s a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system complete with a drop-down projector; an extensive wine list and twelve-tap bar; and even a list of pre-approved caterers who collaborate with the venue.

The Evergreen uses the same space for ceremonies and receptions – but provides guests with plenty of options for the changeover period. You can head upstairs to the loft mezzanine bar, or enjoy a cocktail hour at Loyal Legion – the chic bar on the building’s ground floor. Couples may also want to head down to Voysey, the stylish speakeasy in the building’s basement – and the perfect spot for wedding portraits.

Getting Ready Rooms

The Evergreen does have a Wedding Suite – located on the mezzanine – but as it is a little on the small side, we usually advise couples to get ready off-site. That said, the Wedding Suite is perfect for hiding the bride before the ceremony, for last-minute make-up touch-ups and for signing the marriage license.

Nearby Attractions

Since The Evergreen is nestled in the heart of downtown Portland, your guests will be perfectly placed to take in the city’s offbeat charms for the duration of their stay. Many visitors choose to head to Division Street – it’s bursting with character and packed full of restaurants serving treats from across the globe. We love margaritas at Nuestra Cocina and the fired chicken at Reel M Inn.

That said, if you’re feeling thirsty you might prefer to settle into one of Portland’s many brewpubs. You’ll find them dotted all over the city – but few can compete with the selection at Loyal Legion, right underneeth The Evergreen. They’ve got 99 local craft beers on tap, plus you can get a sneak peak of the venue!

The outdoorsy won’t want to miss out on Forest Park – a 5,000-acre oasis just west of downtown Portland. It offers great rainforest hikes; and why not walk to the iconic St. John’s bridge in Cathedral Park and head into trendy St. John’s.

Whether your guests are flying in for the weekend, or planning an extended stay, Portland has plenty to keep them entertained.

There is some street parking around The Evergreen, but given the venue’s central location, many will prefer to travel via taxi or public transport.

The Evergreen does not have rooms attached – but thanks to its central Portland location, there are plenty of stylish options a stone’s throw from the venue.

Whether your guests prefer the hip surrounds of The Hoxton (rooms from $130), the nostalgic luxury of The Benson (from $150), or the ever elegant The Nines Hotel (from $265), you can feel confident they’ll be well rested and taken care of – and on time for your big day!

Photo Opportunities

Both Loyal Legion and Voysey – located in the same building as The Evergreen – can be used for portraits when scheduled in advance. Voysey’s speakeasy vibe – think soft lighting, textured wallpaper and crimson velvet banquettes – lends itself especially well to wedding photos. And Loyal Legion has an iconic neon sign above a leather booth that adds a dreamy glow.

In the venue itself, the staircase leading up from the main ballroom to the mezzanine loft is another ideal spot for photos, and the ballroom itself provides plenty of space to line up the wedding party and famly for group shots.

And when the weather is cooperating, the surrounding neighborhood sports a variety of different backgrounds, including brick walls, sliding white barn, and greenery growing in water troughs lining the building facade.
