Government Cove Adventure Engagement Session

I scheduled Kennedy and David’s engagement session at Government Cove several months ago and we kept having to postpone because of the weather. In the grand scheme of things, I’m really glad that we decided to wait because we were gifted with a stunning evening and a secret patch of purple flowers that I found just off the road near the parking area. There were several other photographers with couples hiking around and they passed the spot right by, so I’m going to go ahead and pat myself on the back for that solid find.

This was my second time photographing at Government Cove. The first time I shot there was in the winter and I wasn’t entirely impressed because most of the vegetation had died off for the season. But I quickly changed my tune this time around. Government Cove resides just off of I-84 in the Columbia River Gorge, and it juts ever so slightly into the river. When you hike to the top you get great views in both directions up and down the river, and it’s a solid little sunset spot. There are even a few campfire pits. I have no idea if it’s actually legal to make a fire out there but it’s a pretty romantic spot.

Kennedy and David were super cuddly and full of smiles the whole time, really easy to work with. I especially loved their style. Kennedy brought three outfits. The first included a long white jacket that flapped elegantly in the wind. Outfits that have motion are always great for photos. To cap things off, David brought out a bottle of champagne he’d been hiding in his backpack. He gave it a good shake. After opening it the champagne exploded everywhere and splashed my camera a little, but it’s no worse for wear. It was a great way to end the evening! 🙂 — KC
