Family And Tradition in Wedding Photos at the Evergreen
With their large families gathered, documenting every loved one was essential. Jessie, the youngest of three sisters and the last to marry, shared an intimate moment with her mother while getting dressed, a sentimental milestone for both of them. Jessie, a ninth-generation Oregonian, has always felt deeply connected to nature. A plant lover and avid visitor of botanical gardens, she brought that love indoors with lush greenery woven into the decor. Bayo’s family, originally from Nigeria, wore traditional Yoruba robes, a striking tribute to his heritage. Having moved to the U.S. when he was four, his family’s presence and cultural traditions were a powerful part of the celebration. Their wedding wasn’t just about uniting two people—it was about blending traditions, honoring history, and celebrating the future they plan together.

The couple’s first look took place on their rental’s rooftop, where Portland’s autumn trees provided a stunning backdrop. Jessie, a trail runner, felt completely in her element surrounded by the changing leaves. Before the ceremony, we wandered through SE Portland, stopping at murals and tree-lined streets for portraits. The Evergreen’s brick entrance, black door, and white sliding barndoor created striking compositions, especially as dusk set in and the city lights flickered on.
Joyous Wedding Reception Photos at The Evergreen
The Evergreen’s spacious ballroom, with its rich wood floors and historic brick walls, was the perfect space for their ceremony and high-energy reception. Emotional speeches filled the evening with laughter and tears, followed by an exuberant dance party where Jessie and Bayo’s playful personalities shone. They love cooking together—she’s the breakfast expert, and he’s the dinner master, so delicious food was central to their celebration. And instead of a cake, they shared an ice cream sandwich, a fun and fitting touch. Pip’s Donuts were also served, a nod to their love for Portland’s food scene.
The Evergreen’s Unique Charm
The mezzanine at The Evergreen provides an overlook onto the ballroom, which Jessie and Bayo enjoyed as they took in their celebration. The nearby changing room is also great for signing marriage licenses. Large windows flooded the ballroom with natural light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. During the beginning of the reception, guests gathered downstairs at The Loyal Legion for cocktail hour while the main space was transformed.
