The Colony St Johns Wedding Photography

Quinlyn and Ren’s wedding at The Colony in St Johns was one of the last weddings I photographed in 2018, and it was a great way to cap off the year. The newlyweds were one of the most genuine couples I’ve ever worked with. I had the joy of shooting their engagement session at their home and on Albert Street, which you can find here. I also loved the fun little details and traditions that they worked into their day.

It was my first time photographing a ceremony where the bride and groom jump over a broom at the end, so I thought that was a lot of fun. They also incorporated special wooden Welsh spoons into their reception dinnerware. Their reception tables were named for their favorite drag queens. And at the head table they placed two golden animal totems representing them, an owl and an elephant. Very cute!

Quinlyn had her hair and makeup done at a cute Airbnb in NE Portland. I always think that doing something like this is a great option because it gives your wedding party ample space to get ready and hang out, and it feels homey and organic. You can also have fun with picking out a rental that fits your style so the photos look extra great.

From there, we headed over to The Colony to finish getting ready before the ceremony, which was full of laughter and tears. After, we made a quick trip down to Cathedral Park for sunset before returning for to the reception. The Colony is one of my favorite venues in Portland. It’s a moody space but with good light, which is a difficult balance to strike. Having Cathedral Park just a stone’s throw away is also really nice! Luckily we were able to time portraits there with sunset so we got some really great light. 🙂 — KC
