This beautiful Short Sand Beach elopement took place on an overcast day in July. Although weather on the Oregon coast can be tricky any time of year, the summer months are generally your best options for elopements if you don’t have a venue to retreat in case it rains. We lucked out with really mild weather, which allowed us to celebrate comfortably while enjoying to the crashing waves.
Short Sands Beach, the jewel of Oswald State Park, is one of my favorite locations to photograph elopements. Check here for more great Oregon Elopement Locations.
The newlyweds, Amanda and Jeremy, fell in love fast after meeting on Match.com. They’re both runners and enjoy adventuring in the outdoors. They were also eager to tie the knot, so a Short Sand Beach elopement was perfect for them, while they planned to have a bigger reception later in the year.
Short Sand Beach is a great location for an Oregon coast elopement. Relatively close to both Canon Beach and Manzanita, Short Sand Beach feels a bit more remote than the public beaches closer to town, requiring a mile walk from the parking lot through an old growth forest. The beach is also a hot spot for surfers and draws a youthful, adventurous crowd.
Towering rocky cliffs with mossy evergreens at each end of the beach provide wonderful, grandiose backdrops for your portraits. And the old growth forest offers additional photo opportunities for some variety in your photographs. To enjoy the best light, timing your ceremony for the last couple hours of the day will look the most beautiful.
For couples considering a Short Sand Beach Elopement, check out renting an Airbnb or hotel room in Canon Beach for getting ready, only about 15 minutes away. In the lead up to your elopement, keep an eye on the weather and possibly have some rainy weather gear and umbrellas on standby just in case.
