A Heartfelt Oaks Pioneer Church Elopement
Eloping is always a deeply personal decision, but for Celeste and Dylan, it was also a practical one. In the midst of the pandemic, when large gatherings were still restricted and masks were an everyday reality, they chose an intimate celebration over a traditional wedding. Their Oaks Pioneer Church elopement was a beautiful reflection of their love—simple, meaningful, and filled with special moments that truly represented who they are.
A Musical Connection on Their Special Day
Both Celeste and Dylan are scientists, but beyond their shared curiosity for the natural world, they also share a love for music. One of the most memorable parts of their elopement day was the private moment they planned before their ceremony. After getting ready in their apartment near OHSU, they sat down together with their instruments and played a song they had learned for the occasion.
Incorporating an activity like playing music together into an elopement is a beautiful way to create lasting memories. Whether it’s a song, a board game, a shared hobby, or even a quiet moment of journaling, these moments add depth to the day and provide wonderful opportunities for candid, heartfelt photography. Capturing Celeste and Dylan’s music session was a privilege—it showcased their connection in a way that was entirely their own.
Portraits in Washington Park and a Ceremony at Oaks Pioneer Church
After their music session, we took a short walk to Washington Park for portraits. The lush greenery and early morning tranquility made for a peaceful and intimate backdrop before heading to their ceremony. With just twelve of their closest friends and family, Celeste and Dylan exchanged vows at Oaks Pioneer Church, a hidden gem nestled in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland.
Oaks Pioneer Church is an ideal venue for elopements. As a non-denominational chapel, it welcomes couples of all backgrounds, whether religious or not, and offers a charming and historic setting for an intimate ceremony. Its simple yet elegant natural wood and stain glass interior allows couples to personalize their ceremony while still enjoying the timeless beauty of the space.

A Beautiful Riverside Ending to the Day
After the ceremony, we explored the chapel grounds for additional portraits before heading to a small beach along the Willamette River. With the Sellwood Bridge in the background and the golden light reflecting off the water, it was the perfect way to end the day. The intimate and relaxed nature of their Oaks Pioneer Church elopement allowed them to be fully present, soaking in every moment without the pressure of a large wedding.
